{homemade lotion}
my dear friend and successful aromatherapist taught me how to make this super luxurious lotion. i can relay the recipe but would suggest picking up the book in which it comes from. Aromatherapy, A Complete Guide to the Healing Art not only will it educate you on the history of essential oils, but will teach you how to make dozens of health care products including lotions, creams, toners, shampoo & perfume.
When using essential oils i highly recommend buying the best quality organic oils available ~ to learn more view here: Veriditas Botanicals.
{BASIC CREAM RECIPE}
yields one wide mouth mason jar
1 cup oil, such as almond, apricot, or grape seed
3/4 ounce beeswax {22 grams}
1 cup water (lukewarm)
30 -50 drops essential oils
you can find beeswax in bulk at your local co-op, it sometimes comes in pearls, shavings or in a 1 ounce chip in which case you should shave it into small pieces to melt easier. for you essential oils, i guess use what you like ~ my recent concoction included patchouli, frankincense, vetiver & sweet marjoram : all courtesy of veriditas botanicals ~ thanks mel!
you will need:
blender
rubber spatula
chopstick
pyrex measuring cup
small saucepan
clean jar
add shaved beeswax to oil in a Pyrex measuring cup (i use a 2 cup size).
place it in a small sauce pan 3/4 full of water, so it reaches half way up the measuring cup. bring to a boil, then turn down to med high and still with chopstick until the beeswax just begins to melt. remove from heat and let cool, just slightly. you want to be able to stick your finger in comfortably and when removed have a semi hard film of beeswax remain.
place your essential oils in a cup of lukewarm water, roughly 30 - 50 drops {you are looking to have your water & oil/wax be the same temp} and then pour into blender. with lid on and funnel attached (or small hole open) turn on blender and slowly pour oil/wax into water. watch as the liquids slowly become lotion! keep pouring the oil and have your blender on high, if the lotion seems sort of stuck, remove the top and slowly stir just around the top edges with chopstick as the blender is going ~ be careful, you don't want to hit the blades and get chopstick chunks in your beautiful new lotion. it shouldn't take long until well incorporated.
then remove lotion into jar and enjoy.
works especially well on slightly damp skin, like right after a bath before drying off.
